I have theatre in my bones.
I knew this at the age of eight when I directed my first production, The Wizard of Oz. I rounded up my the kids who lived on my street, raided the costume box and staged my own take on the classic. We performed to a packed audience (of our parents) in my front yard. I knew then that I had found something special.
Twenty-something years on and my love for the craft remains as strong as ever. I create theatre with the same boundless joy and playfulness that first ignited my passion all those years ago. I believe that play and collaboration are the most powerful tools for creating great theatre, and I foster a rehearsal environment that encourages experimentation and risk-taking. As a director, it is my job to guide and shape the contributions of my collaborators, ultimately crafting a cohesive and impactful production that resonates with audiences.
In 2017, I co-founded Little Triangle, an independent theatre company devoted to presenting underperformed shows and original cabarets. Our debut production, Sunday in the Park with George, received critical acclaim and established Little Triangle as a notable presence in Sydney's independent musical theatre scene. Since then, we have continued to produce a diverse array of works, reflecting a wide range of perspectives and experiences.
Theatre is my home and the people that I create it are my family. Just like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, I found everything I was looking for in my own front yard.

Testimonials
“There’s no way to say this but to gush... Alexander Andrews is a bloody genius! He is a true craftsman, to the degree that I often forget I know anything about the theatre and, after his productions, often find myself sitting, wide-eyed, wondering how on earth he creates the magic he does.”
— Tyran Parke, Director
“Alexander Andrews is colour and light. He is bold yet gentle. Razzle dazzle, yet raw. Most importantly, he is an uncommonly kind person. As an actor, I felt a great sense of security and freedom on each occasion we have worked together. Alexander has an astute sense of style, particularly when it comes to bringing classic stories to a modern audience. He does this so well because his focus is always on the humanity behind each story. Alexander is the humblest creative I have worked with, and I would do so once more at the drop of a hat.”
— Georgina Walker, Actor
“Alexander Andrews has a natural instinct for theatre like no other creative I have ever worked with, which, he continues to fine-tune through his curiosity, compassion, and thirst for learning. This enables him to envision impeccable coherence from an 'entire production' lens, while also having a true gift to workshop the detail and bring out the best in every artist he works with.”
— Conrad Hamill, Music Director
“Alex is one of the most incredible creatives I have had the pleasure to collaborate with for over five years. As a Director, he is a joy to watch in the rehearsal room, always creating not only clever theatre, but also an exceptionally welcoming atmosphere for artists. The respect and care he shows for the form and for all those who participate is truly beautiful. Alex's extreme flexibility to work under budgetary and logistical restraints is commendable, and rare in the industry. Alex brings a wealth of knowledge of theatrical history alongside dramaturgical approaches that equip him with ability and expertise far beyond his years. I do not exaggerate when I say I wish I could keep his creative genius to myself, but this would do a disservice to all performers, creatives, students, and audiences who could not otherwise witness his work.”
— Rose McClelland, Producer
“Getting the opportunity to work as an actor with Alexander Andrews in quite a few of his productions has been an absolute dream. His exceptional ability to guide his actors, whilst still maintaining and nurturing their own integrity and craft, through the intricacies of his directorial vision is a testament to the brilliant director that he is. He immerses himself into the world of each show, creating emotional, intelligent, and thought-provoking pieces of theatre, whilst challenging his actors to join him on this journey. He is a rare and wonderful man who I would work with again in a heartbeat!”
— Jack Dawson, Actor
